I have two kids now, one or both are almost always sick, the lights go off early and, long story short, I can’t read myself to sleep anymore. And I’m sharing it with you now for the measly cost of an Unwinnable Monthly subscription: I have conceived an idea that, for reasons soon to become clear, I have no time to confirm is an original idea. In her other series titled Struck, the author sets out to establish a world of detectives and romance. At the center of this story are the seven Benedict brothers from Colorado, all with their own talents. This British novelist in fact first got her career started with Finding Sky, the first novel in the Benedicts series. She has researched her novels and walked in the same footsteps as her character for Finding Sky, taking a trip to witness the beauty of the Rockies and their landscape, going on a raft down a white-water river, or seeing Las Vegas and its grand artificial skyline for herself. As for her influences, she cites “Wuthering Heights” for its great sense of place and evocation of mood while she loves the style and simplicity of Ernest Hemingway. ![]() However, Green does find the subject somewhat interesting due to the social issues that arise from them such as witch hunts. While she writes fantasy novels full of witches, she has never been a huge reader of fantasy novels or a consumer of fantasy films. She has been addicted to storytelling ever since. She had started writing on a whim in 2010 and only intended to pen a short story which soon turned into a manuscript for a full-length novel. Nonetheless, she always loved writing even though much of what she did was pen financial reports in her former life as an accountant. ![]() Unlike many novelists, Sally was never a creative person and hence she surprised family, friends, and even herself with her success. She also scored a movie deal not long after she published the debut novel in 2014. The trilogy it spawned has since been licensed to publishers across more than 42 countries. She had almost immediate success with her debut novel “Half Bad” getting a million-pound advance even before it as published. Filled with many tropes that will be familiar to fans of regency romance, Half a Soul transports readers to a magic-filled world with just the right blend of familiarity and mystery.įor me, what makes a romance story work best is when the characters are authentic and relatable.
